Letter from the President

Letter from the president

On behalf of the Pi Delta chapter, welcome to Alpha Omicron Pi and the University of Maryland, College Park! We are so happy to give you a glimpse into our chapter and the 123 women that make it so special. In an attempt to share with you all the things that make this chapter wonderful, I feel it’s only fitting that I share a bit of my own experience.

Going through recruitment freshman year was an exciting but nerve-wracking time. Hoping to find a home full of people I would one day call my best friends, all my nerves set aside when I walked through our big red door on the very first day of recruitment. I was instantly comforted by the warm, accepting and kind women that welcomed me at Alpha Omicron Pi. Every day since then, my sisters truly personify AOII’s motto, “Inspire Ambition.” Each and every one of them is a passionate, intelligent, kind-hearted and fun-loving woman who always encourages others to exceed the expectation.

Besides finding hundreds of the most incredible women I know, being a member of this chapter has been such a privilege for so many reasons. I am constantly motivated to contribute to my community through our efforts to fundraise and raise awareness for Juvenile Arthritis, I am encouraged to challenge myself in leadership positions internally and throughout campus, and I am always reminded of the incredible network that is Alpha Omicron Pi beyond our own chapter at UMD. Our chapter is constantly working to ensure each member is contributing to the greater community, developing personally and professionally, and seizing every opportunity that comes their way. This robust group of women have truly taught me how to be empowered, and how to empower others.

Last spring, the University of Maryland’s Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life awarded the President’s Cup to the Pi Delta chapter as the most outstanding Panhellenic chapter. At the 2017 Alpha Omicron Pi International Convention, Pi Delta was recognized as a chapter of excellence for its Excellence in Campus Involvement, Excellence in Fraternity and Sorority Relations, Excellence in Membership Recruitment, Excellence in Membership Retention, Excellence in New Member Education, Excellence in Ritual, and Excellence in Academic Achievement. Our chapter has graciously celebrated each of these successes in the past, and works towards building upon this greatness every day.

I am truly honored to serve as the Chapter President for Alpha Omicron Pi, Pi Delta this year. We appreciate you taking the time to look through our website, and are so excited to share all of the astounding aspects of our chapter with you.

Roses,

Melanie McLean
